ST LOUIS, MO – The new $84.5 million, 132,900-square-foot Center for Nursing and Health Sciences located on St. Louis Community College’s Wildwood campus (STLCC Wildwood) is complete with Wiegmann Associates as the Design/Assist mechanical engineer. The new facility, which will open to students in August, will debut 10 new campus programs and increase capacity for the school’s nursing program and other in-demand healthcare and technology careers to benefit the local economy.

“It’s not just an academic center, It’s a cornerstone in the economic ecosystem,” said Wildwood Mayor Joe Garritano.

Wiegmann was brought onto the Center for Nursing and Health Sciences project to streamline HVAC design throughout the building and select equipment/accessories in a Design/Assist role with IMEG, the consulting engineer. The systems serve the specialized spaces within the facility, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and nuclear medicine labs. The energy-efficient yet cost-efficient HVAC design solution features chilled and hot water systems coupled with variable volume air handling units.

BSI served as the general contractor, Kwame Building Group served as construction manager and Christner was the project architect. The project is part of $450 million STLCC Transformed project, which includes development and construction of six new buildings and renovations to existing spaces at each of the College’s four main campuses. Wiegmann was the mechanical contractor for the LEED Silver Center for Nursing & Health Sciences at SLCC’s Forest Park campus, which was completed in 2019.

“We’ve worked hard to create space and experiences for students like they will see when they go out and go into the employment field, and what the workplace will look for,” STLCC Chancellor Dr. Jeff Pitman said.

When STLCC Wildwood opened, it became the first community college in the nation to achieve LEED Gold certification. The “green” campus was designed to enhance occupant comfort and health and built with environmentally-friendly materials and architecture reduce operating costs, conserve natural resources and reduce each building’s environmental impact
