PROJECT SCOPE

Wiegmann designed and installed HVAC and refrigeration systems for the newly constructed 533,600-square-foot warehouse and distribution center, which serves as the mid-Atlantic region base for this international courier. The office and warehouse facility comprises ambient and temperature-controlled areas including 39,000 square feet of -10 degrees Fahrenheit freezer space, 19,300 square feet of 38 degrees Fahrenheit cooler space, and a 24,000-square-foot 38 degrees Fahrenheit cold dock.

A direct expansion (DX) rooftop unit with variable air volume (VAV) systems serves the main office area. Heat and two air changes of ventilation were included in the ambient storage warehouse. Wiegmann installed a complete refrigeration system to serve the new freezer, cooler and cold dock spaces.

PROJECT CHALLENGE

Unique to this project is the complexity of the courier’s operations. As new vendors were added, our engineers quickly responded with scope and pricing changes to aid decisions for the facility’s layout. With a large refrigerated space, we focused on understanding the product loads in these areas and then collaborated with the client to provide systems that will meet their temperature needs at a cost-effective price.
