PROJECT SCOPE

Wiegmann designed, coordinated, and installed the full mechanical system for the 29-story luxury student apartment complex. Wiegmann implemented an innovative design in order to create an energy-efficient system that aligned with the client’s schedule and budget.

The complex has 350 units ranging in size from studio to five-bedroom apartments. It also features a rooftop pool, fitness center, yoga zone, sauna, golf simulator, game lawn and in-home washer and dryers. The apartment complex became available for the 2021-2022 school year.

 PROJECT CHALLENGE

Wiegmann created an innovative HVAC design to meet the client’s goals of having an energy-efficient system that was on-schedule and on-budget, while providing occupant comfort. This was achieved by streamlining the duct and pipe design and working with the onsite installers to prefabricate the mechanical penthouse piping where feasible.

In order to maximize energy efficiency, Wiegmann designed the system to utilize water source heat pumps with a lot of glazing. This design is to account for the mild winter climate. On a mild winter day, the sunny side of the building will require cooling while the shaded side will require heating. This system allows for a significant number of hours in which simultaneous heating and cooling is possible without the use of the central plant equipment.
